In a big celebration at the Faculty of Education, University of Alexandria, on the 17th of November, 2011, a cooperation protocol was signed by the Faculty of Education, the “Future Protectors Association”, El-Araby Group and the Islamic preacher Mostafa Hosni. The protocol aims at building a huge research and training project to raise awareness of the risks of drug addiction. The project, which is supervised by the “Future Protectors Association”, will last for three years. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is a technical consultant for the project. The celebration was attended by Mr. Faisal Higazy, Regional Deputy Manager of the UNODC, Prof. Mohammad Ismail, Dean of Faculty of Education, Eng. Muhammad Mahmoud El-Araby, Executive Member of the Board of El-Araby Group, Islamic preacher Mostafa Hosni, and a number of faculty members. The project aims at broadening participation in voluntary work for community service through organizing specialized training programs for university students, about designing and managing awareness campaigns. The training programs include sessions on communication skills, time management, presentation skills, teamwork, and many other skills that are relevant to technical abilities in the field of voluntary and humanitarian work. Ms. Mona El-Dereeny, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the “Future Protectors Association” and Project Manager, expressed her pride of signing the cooperation protocol. She added that the broad-spectrum project covers a large number of universities and schools in seven governorates: Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, Gharbeyya, Daqahleyya, Assiut and Sohag. The project aims at training 500 third-year students at the Faculty of Education, during the first term, through an intensive, 24-training hour course. Later, the trainees will run awareness campaigns for school students through their classes as undergraduate trainee teachers at schools. This ensures that the awareness message arrives to about 25,000 students in different schools in each governorate. The project also targets addressing attention to field studies in the social sector, through training 400 researchers in the field of sociology and psychology from faculties of Art. The project will also finance a number of projects that target the study of the roots of addiction in the Egyptian society. The program also includes training 80 Muslim and Christian preachers, with the aim of developing their skills in raising awareness and explaining the negative, destructive effects of addiction on the stability of Egyptian families. In his word in the celebration, Eng. Muhammad Mahmoud El-Araby, Executive Member of the Board of El-Araby Group, expressed his pleasure that El-Araby Group is the main sponsor of this important project. He added: “Announced statistics about the spread of drug addiction in the Egyptian society, which according to one recently published study reached 10% of the overall population, is like a red alarm that should push us towards joining hands to combat this dangerous epidemic, and raise awareness of its negative effects on the Egyptian society at the medical, social and economic levels. El-Araby Group is always keen on community participation and supporting any initiative that aims at community service and development.” The participation of the Islamic preacher Mostafa Hosni in the project consists in organizing a number of religious seminars in the seven governorates the project covers. In the seminars which are followed by open discussions with the students, Hosni will tackle the problem of addiction from the religious and ethical points of view. It is expected that a number of government entities and social and religious associations will join the project.

"An actual change in behavior in order to help build our country": that was the slogan of the campaign "Life without Smoking" sponsored by El-Araby Group as part of its community participation activities. The campaign started on the 28th of June and ended on the 7th of July at the Shooting Club, and in collaboration with "Life without Smoking Association". The campaign included a number of events and activities, the most prominent of which was the seminar attended by the religious speaker Dr. Abla Al-Kahlawy. The seminar discussed the issue of public awareness as regards the role each individual should play in changing his behavior for a better tomorrow for our country. Dr. Abla Al-Kahlawy highlighted that smoking is one of the biggest obstacles faced by society; it negatively affects the national economy, wastes millions of pounds, as well as destroys people's health and causes many deadly diseases, of which cancer is only an example. This campaign was not the first step for El-Araby Group in its war on smoking and all habits that have a negative social impact. ElAraby Group signed a memorandum with the internationally renowned electronics Japanese company of Toshiba, by which ElAraby Group has been mandated to locally produce, market and export Toshiba’s LCD TVs. The signature took place in a major event that commenced with a press conference, and attended by senior officials including Minister of Commerce, the Japanese Ambassador in Egypt, Minister of Labor, and Governors of Kalyoubia and Menoufeya. Currently, the two companies own Toshiba ElAraby Company; a joint project for marketing and exporting home appliances, including refrigerators, washing machines, to African countries. Based on more than two decades of success, ElAraby Group and Toshiba Company signed a new agreement last December that entails the establishment of a joint project to manufacture LCD equipment in Egypt. The new project, the first of its kind in Egypt in terms of its production capacity, is anticipated to emerge as one of the major LCD TVs facilities in the Middle East and Africa. The project will accelerate the development of LCD TVs production in Egypt and increase employment in the electronics sector. This new partnership will consolidate Toshiba’s worldwide leadership in the production of LCD TVs, as its international sales reached 10 million units in by end of 2010. Toshiba targets to sell 15 million units during the current financial year. The new joint project-Toshiba ElAraby Visual Products Company- is established in Cairo with a paid in capital of 10 million US$. The plant, currently under construction, is planned to commence production by March 2011, with production activities including assemblage of electronic screens circuits and other processes until the final product of LCD TVs.
On Thursday evening, 13 January 2011, Al-Araby Group, the leading company in manufacturing and marketing audio/visual products and home appliances, signed a partnership agreement with Toshiba, the Japanese corporation renounced all over the world for manufacturing electronics. The new factory will work with an initial production capacity of 600,000 units annually for the sizes 24 and 32 inches, and with a number of employees that amounts to 300. The factory's production capacity will be increased to 2 million units annually in 2013.
